Rules
and Prizes
- Entries normally
will be limited to a selection of no less than 25 nor more than
50 books or similar material (for example, pamphlets, periodicals),
regardless of the size of the student's total collection.
Books must be owned and collected by the student alone.
Students
will submit a brief (less than five pages) statement of the purpose
of her collection and ideas for the collection's future development,
together with a bibliography of the collection that includes at
least 10 annotated entries describing each volume and its special
interest to the collection and/or the collector.
This contest
is open to all Sweet Briar College students currently enrolled
as full-time students.
Previous
winners are ineligible.
Statements
and bibliographies must be submitted to Joe Malloy, ILL/Branch
Librarian at Cochran Library no later that 4:00 pm on Friday,
February 1, 2008. These will be used for preliminary judging.
Finalists may be asked to bring their collections for final judging.
Winners
will be announced at the Friends of Library Spring Meeting.
- Forth and
Fifth place winners will be awarded a certificate and a gift.
The Contest
is sponsored by Mr. Nicholas Basbanes and the Sweet Briar College
Friends of the Library. Winners do not need to have large or expensive
collections. Judges will focus on the collector's stated purpose
and goals and how well the collection meets them.
