Sweet
Briar's Mary Helen Cochran Library provides students and faculty
with one of the largest private undergraduate collections in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. Our buildings house nearly 300,000 items,
including over one thousand scholarly journals, an extensive collection
of audio and videotape programs, sound recordings, and multimedia
software. The library is open 110 hours a week and 24 hours a day
during exam periods.

offers audio/video production, broadcast facilities, multimedia workstations,
and satellite television access.
Our shared automated catalog,
LION: Lynchburg Information Online Network, allows students
to search the combined holdings of Sweet Briar College and Randolph College. Students may search these
databases from terminals in Cochran Library, from campus computer
labs, or from personal computers anywhere in the world.
The Martin
C. Shallenberger Library for Rare Books and Archives
houses the Special
Collections which total over 5,000 volumes and manuscripts. The
Special Collections include a variety of out-of-print volumes and
first editions. The Library collects rare editions by and about

The Fanny
B. Fletcher Archives, located in the Martin C. Shallenberger
Library for Rare Books and Archives,
is the repository for the records of the College in addition to
a variety of scrapbooks, photographs and diaries that have been
donated over the years by alumnae, faculty members and administrators.
